We use an Ellipse IPL system and it is widely acknowledged to be the best of the best. The Ellipse Light is not a laser. It is a second-generation Intense
Pulsed Light (I2PL) system, using broad-spectrum visible light. Its clinically proven implementation of the Intense Pulsed Light technology is unique. "Dual Mode Filtering" takes away those wavelengths which only cause heating of the water in the skin. In other words: Since it uses only clinically relevant wavelengths we will be using comparatively low energy levels such that client discomfort and risk of side effects will be minimal.
The spot size of the hand-piece, which delivers the energy to the skin, is large: 10 by 48 mm. It can fire new shots as quickly as we can move the hand-piece. This means that we quickly cover even large treatment areas.

Melanin converts the light energy it absorbs into heat. This heat is transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed, making it unable to produce a new hair. This technique has the name "Selective Photothermolysis.
The visible light produced by the Ellipse Flex and Ellipse Light systems are carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and right amount of energy to destroy the follicle.

Laser: Uses the same "Selective Photothermolysis" technique as IPL. This converts light from the laser into heat in the hair follicles, leading to destruction of the hair and follicle. The light is monochromatic (only one wavelength). Typically the light is delivered in a spot only a few millimetres in diameter. To treat larger areas, the spot has to be moved many times - which takes time and leaves a risk of missed hairs. The use of light energy to destroy hair follicles revolutionised hair removal, and led to the development of IPL.
